What sad news! I was a student of his in 1989 and I always really liked him. The year after he retired, I once ran into him wandering through the halls after hours. He was teary eyed as we chatted, and he talked about missing his room and teaching. His room! Haha! Everyone remembers the menagerie he had, including a piranha in the back, and the fish in the bathtub. I remember there being tanks and cages all over the place, in every inch of the room, at your feet, next to you as you took notes. I realized with a shock one day that the clear box of sawdust next to my elbow was moving, with mealworms! I'm glad I am not squeamish and like critters! I found them all fascinating. I really did have a soft spot for Mr. Farnham. He loved his field and what he did, that was clear. Ah, he was a softy for his creepy crawlies. May he rest in peace. He is remembered fondly.
