Alice Low 25th January 2011

My heart goes out to the Farnham family – I’m so sorry for your loss. I was in his Biology classes in the 10th and 11th grades at Pali High (1972 and 1973), and it was his inspiration that made me become a biologist (I’ve been a fishery biologist for almost 30 years now.) I will always remember how he would cheer up students who appeared to be down by lifting up one eyebrow and asking… “would you like to feed a snake?” One time, he gave me some mealworms to feed to a lizard. Of course, the lizard snapped fast at the very first mealworm, I flinched, and threw the rest of the mealworms and sawdust up in the air and all over the classroom floor. Mr. Farnham just had a little smile on his face… I also remember all the good times we had when he gave us butterfly nets and turned us loose in Temescal Canyon across the street from school. (I’m pretty sure that was in the 11th grade – you had to be an Advanced Biology student to do that type of collecting.) Thanks, Mr. Farnham, for inspiring me to a lifelong interest in the biological world.
