Kay Pegram 31st January 2011

I had Mr. Farnham for 10th grade biology and then again for Advanced Biology in 12th grade. What a good teacher he was, and so passionate, and his classroom so filled with animals. Largely because of his passion, I went on to UCSD to become a Biology major, only to discover that we never looked at anything larger than a cell or a chemical reaction inside a cell, very little about complete plants and animals; but I still loved that kind of biology too. The thing that most impressed me among the menagerie in Mr. Farnham’s classroom was the sea turtle, and the fact that he went down to the beach every few days to get fresh salt water to fill the tank – at least that’s how I remember it, but it’s been so long, maybe I have some of the details wrong. And as some others have mentioned, I do remember the “unique” smell in his classroom! It’s teachers like Mr. Farnham who positively impact students’ lives and inspire them to be good thinkers and good people. I will always remember him.
